The 24-year-old Dutchman, who is currently top of the Development Tour Order of Merit, beat Stephen Bunting 8-5 in the final to win his maiden title in the senior ranks. The first year PDC tour card holder had reached a Players Championship final in July, along with a quarter-final on the European Tour in September, and continued his impressive debut season with a victory at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. Nijman fired in ton-plus averages against Radek Szaganski, Ryan Searle and Jose De Sousa, before going on to beat Krzysztof Ratajski 6-2 in the quarter-finals and Gary Anderson 7-5 in the last four. In a battle of the last two Masters champions it was the 2023 winner Dobey who came out on top, seeing off Bunting 8-3 to take home the £15,000 top prize. ‘Hollywood’ averaged 100.95 for the tournament as he extended his lead at the top of the Players Championship Order of Merit. Dobey’s run to the title included an epic 150 checkout in a last-leg decider to beat Luke Littler 6-5 in the quarter-finals, before he averaged 104 in a 7-1 thrashing of Daryl Gurney in the final four. The world number one fought back from 7-6 down to take the last two legs to win the title, as Bunting finished as the runner-up for a third day in a row. Earlier in the day, Ritchie Edhouse recorded an astonishing 120.24 average in a whitewash 6-0 win against Graham Hall, winning legs in 12, 10, 13, 14, 15 and 11 darts. A thrilling final saw Ryan Searle race into a 4-0 lead in his first European Tour final, before moving to the brink of victory at 7-4. However, a dramatic finish saw ‘Heavy Metal’ miss seven match darts and a reprieved Schindler pinched the title in a last-leg decider. I’ve worked very hard to get to where I am today and I’m proud of myself. “I fancy myself to do well in the big TV events coming up, but today is just about winning this trophy. That’s all that matters to me now.” CAROLISSEN BOOKS ALLY PALLY RETURN South Africa’s Cameron Carolissen will make his PDC World Darts Championship return in December, after winning the African Darts Group Qualifier on Sunday. ‘The Javelin’ won through a 105-player field in Nairobi to seal his second appearance at Alexandra Palace, having made his debut in the tournament in 2020. A gripping final of the qualifier went all the way to a deciding leg and saw both players have a chance to win. Carolissen missed a dart at double 16 before his opponent Peter Wachiuri, from Kenya, narrowly missed double 17 for a sensational 154 checkout. And it was Carolissen who kept his cool to hit double eight to win the qualifier and confirm his return to the biggest tournament in darts at the end of the year. Five more international qualifiers will be confirmed this weekend through the PDC Asian Tour and DartPlayers New Zealand Qualifier.
