Tungsten Darts

Tungsten darts are a popular choice for players for a variety of reasons. One reason is that tungsten is a very heavy metal material, so you will be able to fit more weight into a smaller sized dart, meaning you can fit more darts into the treble 20 or the bullseye!

A darts barrel made of tungsten will come in a certain percentage of tungsten, for example 80%, 90% or 95%. A dart with a high tungsten percentage will be a higher-quality dart, as the material is more durable and will last longer.

Tungsten steel tip darts will also offer a better grip for longer as the materials used are more durable. A set of tungsten darts will last longer than a set made of brass or nickel-silver, making them the more popular choice for players to use.

What’s the difference between tungsten and other darts materials?

The difference between tungsten and other darts materials is the overall quality will be much higher with a tungsten dart. Tungsten is a premium material in comparison to brass or nickel-silver, which are also commonly used to make steel tip darts.

The high density of tungsten also means that when you compare barrels in the same weight, but in different materials, you will notice a slight difference in size. For example, a 24g tungsten dart will have a thinner barrel compared to a 24g brass dart. The higher percentage of tungsten used in the barrel will also reduce the size of the barrel, which for players at a higher level can make a difference. Using a smaller barrel will cover less of the dartboard, helping you to group the darts together more easily as you will have more of the target to aim at.

What darts do the pro players use?

Professional players use tungsten darts in tournaments with many players agreeing that a dart made of tungsten is the best material to use during play. The 2023 PDC world champion Michael Smith uses his signature Shot Michael Smith Achieve 24g Darts in PDC competitions. Smith’s darts are made of 90% tungsten and feature a centre-weighted barrel which he trusts to help him stay on top of his game.

The 2022 PDC world youth champion Josh Rock also opts for a tungsten dart and uses his Mission Signature Josh Rock 24g Darts in professional tournaments. Rock’s darts are made of 95% tungsten and include a bull nose straight barrel design in electric blue and silver. A 95% tungsten dart and in a 24g weight is what Rock has used to rise up the PDC rankings and throw a nine-dart leg in the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts.
