JAMES WADE

With 10 major titles to his name, James Wade is one of the most successful players in the history of the PDC. ‘The Machine’ started his rise to stardom by winning the 2007 World Matchplay and has gone on to win numerous other major events over the next two decades. The former Premier League and World Grand Prix champion took his tally of big trophy wins into double figures when he picked up the 2021 UK Open. Only Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have won more major singles titles in the PDC than Wade.

The left hander’s darting CV is amongst the best in the modern professional game and shows no sign of slowing up. In 2023, ‘The Machine’ reached the final of the European Championship and also made the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts. Wade has been as high as number two in the world rankings and has been a permanent fixture in virtually every PDC major since 2006! Shop our collection of James Wade darts from Unicorn here!

James Wade FAQ’s

Is James Wade still playing darts?

The 2023 season marked James Wade’s 20th season playing on the PDC circuit. ‘The Machine’ celebrated two decades competing on the professional tour with a run to the final of the European Championship in October 2023, in what was his first major final appearance in more than two years.

Wade followed up that run in Dortmund with two more impressive campaigns back on UK soil. After reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts, he made the last eight of the Players Championship Finals a week later to further cement his status in the top 16 of the world rankings.

What darts does James Wade use now?

The darts James Wade currently uses are his signature Unicorn James Wade Purist Phase 1 Darts in 20g. These darts have been designed and manufactured by Unicorn to meet Wade’s own personal requirements and are made of 90% tungsten.

This set comes with the barrels and points only and a Purist wallet to keep them safe in. The barrels are finished with the Unicorn logo and Wade’s signature engraved on the rear of the barrels.

How old is James Wade?

Born on April 6, 1983, James Wade celebrated his 40th birthday in 2023 – a year which also saw him reach his 25th PDC major final of his career. He started out his darts career playing in local leagues and tournaments, before going on to represent England at a youth level.

He made his World Championship debut at the age of just 19, competing in the BDO World Championship at Lakeside in 2003. After making his second appearance at Lakeside the following year, Wade made the switch to the PDC and over the next 20 years he has become one of the most successful players in the organisation’s history.

Wade has won more than 35 professional titles in the PDC ranks, including the prestigious World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, UK Open and Premier League tournaments, along with other major events such as the Masters, European Championship and World Series of Darts Finals. His first major success came at the World Matchplay in 2007 at the age of 24.

James Wade Career Highlights

James Wade wrote his name in the darts record books in October 2014 in a match which saw both players throw a nine-dart finish – and in the double-in format! Wade struck perfection first with a nine darter in the second set of his second round clash against Robert Thornton, before his opponent hit one of his own in the fourth set!

In late 2014, James Wade produced one of greatest comebacks in the history of darts to win the PDC Masters title. From 9-2 down in the final against Mervyn King, ‘The Machine’ won nine of the next 10 legs to clinch an unlikely victory. He wrapped up the win in a deciding leg with a 135 finish to deny King his first PDC major win.

At the 2021 UK Open, James Wade joined Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen to have won 10+ PDC major tournaments. After knocking out Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, the left hander defeated first time major finalist Luke Humphries in the decider to win the 10th televised major of his career. His landmark 10th title came almost 14 years after his first one to illustrate his incredible longevity in the game.
