IAN WHITE

Ian White has been competing at the top level of darts for more than a decade after joining the PDC in 2010. ‘Diamond’ showed his potential ahead of switching over to the pro ranks, winning the Antwerp Open, Denmark Open and England National Championships in 2009 and qualifying for the BDO World Championship.

White went on to win his first two PDC ranking titles in 2013, as he picked up a pair of Players Championship victories, and soon became a regular in the major events on television. He reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 PDC World Darts Championship, beating Kim Huybrechts and Richie Burnett in last-set deciders at Alexandra Palace.

White’s tournament wins in the PDC have all come on the ProTour, with a Players Championship triumph in early 2020 taking his tally up to 13 titles. ‘Diamond’ has won three European Tour titles, winning the 2018 Dutch Darts Championship, followed by the European Darts Grand Prix and Dutch Darts Masters in 2019. Ian White FAQ’s

Is Ian White still playing darts?

The 2023 season was Ian White’s 14th consecutive year playing on the PDC circuit. White’s campaign ended with him making his return to Alexandra Palace, as he qualified for the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship as one of the ProTour qualifiers.

The most success in 2023 for ‘Diamond’ came in the European Tour Qualifiers, winning through eight of them to qualify for eight of the 13 stage tournaments held across Europe. In the floor events, White reached the semi-finals of Players Championship 10 in April 2023, his best run in a PDC ranking event for more than 18 months. He finished the season in 64th spot on the PDC Order of Merit to keep hold of his tour card for the 2024 campaign.

How old is Ian White?

Born on August 17, 1970, Ian White celebrated his 53rd birthday in 2023 – a year which also saw him compete in his 13th World Championship. He started his darts career playing in local leagues and events, before making a name for himself with a run to the final of the News Of The World Darts Championship in 1997.

He lost out to Phil Taylor in the decider of the revived tournament, which was originally held between 1927 and 1990 and was played under the short format of the best of three legs from start to finish. White returned to the TV when he qualified for the 2010 BDO World Championship, before he made the switch over to the PDC a few months later.

A move to the PDC in 2010 has brought with it plenty of success on the oche for White, winning numerous titles and breaking into the top eight of the world rankings. He made a run to the semi-finals of the Players Championship Finals in 2019, the same year which also saw him make four consecutive European Tour finals.

Ian White Career Highlights

Ian White’s breakthrough on stage came in 2018 when he won the Dutch Darts Championship. In only his second appearance in a European Tour final, ‘Diamond’ beat Ricky Evans 8-5 to win the title and join the European Tour roll of honour. White impressed on his way to the final, beating Arron Monk, Mervyn King, Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright, before edging past Evans to clinch the £25,000 prize in Maastricht.

In May 2019, Ian White recorded one of the most memorable results of his career to win the Dutch Darts Masters. ‘Diamond’ beat the top seed Michael van Gerwen 8-7 in the final in Zwolle, overcoming the home favourite and the Dutch crowd to win his third European Tour title. It was a fourth consecutive European Tour final for White, as he further illustrated his prowess on the stage against the world’s best players.
